Sylvia Louis

I am a professional circus aerialist and pole artist from Canada. I studied aerial arts at the renowned National Circus School in Montreal and have performed as an aerialist with companies around the globe.

Performance highlights include: Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba, Germany’s Palazzo Variete, Sweden’s Cirkus Prinsessan Festival, Holiday On Ice's South American Tour and the Opening & Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

I won first place with my aerial silks act at the 2012 International Aerial Arts Tournament in Hong Kong. My circus specialties include aerial silks, aerial hoop, static trapeze, hammock and adagio. I usually perform as a soloist, but have also performed in aerial duos, trios and groups. Circus performances have taken me across North & South America, Asia, Australia, Europe and Africa.

After years of performing as a circus artist, I began pole dancing and entered my first competition shortly after that. This competition was Miss Pole Dance Canada 2011 - Pro Division, in which I placed 2nd Runner up. In 2012, I was a finalist at the 2nd Pole World Cup in Rio, a semi-finalist at the 1st World Pole Sport Championship in London and a finalist in the Canadian Pole Fitness Championship.

In 2013, I was a finalist at the 1st Pan American Pole Championships in Brazil and a semi-finalist in the International Pole Championships (IPC). I have placed 3rd in Canada, 5th in the Pan Americas and 11th in the world. Combining pole dance and circus acrobatics, I have performed my solo pole act outside of competitions, in various variety shows, dinner shows, fashion shows and other special events in Canada and internationally.

I am currently performing pole in the 2013 production of Cirque Dracula Variete, in Finland.

Recently, I choreographed the first acrobatic pole dance act to ever be presented in a show in Vietnam, for an urban arts creation scheduled to open in Hanoi during late 2013. At the same time, I was a guest instructor for pole and aerial techniques for the National Circus Federation of Vietnam. As well, I have completed various nationally and internationally recognized teaching certifications, including: Canada's National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) in Gymnastics & Rhythmic Gymnastics, NCCP's Respect in Sport, Yoga Alliance certifications for Power, Hatha, Vinyasa Flow and Yin, as well as a Flyoga™ teaching certification, which is recognized by the Malaysian Association of Yoga Instructors. I have taught aerial and pole workshops in Canada, Asia and Europe and can also be seen doing aerial stunts in feature films and TV.  My website is www.acrosilver.com
